About Wegovy® Tablets
The wegovy pill is a once-daily prescription tablet containing semaglutide. It is licensed for weight management in adults alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber must assess whether it is suitable for you before treatment can begin.
Wegovy tablets may be considered for adults with an initial BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related health condition. Meeting these criteria does not mean the medicine will be suitable for everyone. Your clinician will review your medical history, current medicines and individual circumstances as part of your consultation.
How does the wegovy pill work?
Semaglutide acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite. It can help you feel fuller, reduce hunger and eat less. Weight management treatment also includes changes to eating habits and physical activity; your clinician can discuss an approach that is appropriate for you.
How is Wegovy Pill taken?
If prescribed, Wegovy Pill is taken once a day. Treatment usually begins with a lower dose, which is increased gradually as directed by your prescriber. Do not change your dose without speaking to them.
The tablet should be swallowed whole with a sip of water after fasting for at least eight hours. You must then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines. These instructions matter because food and drink can affect how much semaglutide your body absorbs. Always follow the directions supplied with your prescription and read the patient information leaflet.
What should I know before treatment?
Like all medicines, Wegovy Pill can cause side effects. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting. Tell your clinician about any health conditions or medicines you take so they can assess potential risks and interactions.
Your prescriber will decide whether the wegovy pill is an appropriate option following a clinical assessment. If it is prescribed, they will explain how to take it, what side effects to look out for and when your treatment should be reviewed.
